Every organization, no matter how successful, has hidden inefficiencies—what I call "cancer cells." These are the misaligned processes, toxic cultural elements, and underperforming talent that silently erode FUNDS, lower productivity, stops innovation, and business growth. But just like in medicine, early diagnosis and the right treatment can save the patient.
As a Business Oncologist, my mission is to identify and eliminate these cancer cells, ensuring organizations not only survive but thrive. Here’s how I do it.
The Concept of a Business Oncologist:
A Business Oncologist is a specialist who diagnoses and treats the root causes of organizational inefficiencies. By focusing on
v Talent,
v Culture,
v Processes, and
v Technology,
I help businesses realign their core elements to achieve sustainable success.
My approach is holistic, data-driven, and phase-based, ensuring that every intervention is tailored to the unique needs of the organization.
Phase 1: Diagnosis and Assessment
The first step is to identify the cancer cells. This involves:
Competency Gap Analysis: Assessing the talent pool to identify skill mismatches.
IT Architecture Audit: Understanding how data flows and where systems fall short.
Net Promoter Score (NPS) Analysis: Pinpointing process inefficiencies through customer feedback.
Culture Audit: Evaluating the alignment of organizational culture with core values.
Maturity Assessment: Comparing Organizational Maturity vs Customer Maturity Index.
This phase is all about asking the right questions and gathering the data needed to create a clear picture of the organization’s health.
Phase 2: Talent and Culture Transformation
Once the cancer cells are identified, the next step is to treat them. This involves:
Talent Acquisition: Refining hiring processes using competency-based interviewing to ensure the right fit.
Onboarding: Implementing a structured 30-60-90-day onboarding process to set new hires up for success.
Talent Development: Assessing and developing competencies across technical, behavioural, supervisory, managerial, leadership, coaching, and mentoring skills.
Cultural Transformation: Redefining the organization’s mission, vision, and core values, and embedding them through initiatives like mystery shopping to assess adherence to the code of conduct.
This phase is about building a strong foundation of Talent and Culture (T&C) that aligns with the Organization’s goals.
Phase 3: Process and Technology Alignment
With the right talent and culture in place, the focus shifts to optimizing processes and technology:
Process Optimization: Redesigning business processes based on NPS analysis to eliminate inefficiencies.
IT System Alignment: Upgrading or reconfiguring IT systems to support streamlined workflows.
Manpower Realignment: Reorganizing teams and roles to better align with business objectives.
Competency Matching: Ensuring employees have the skills and tools needed to execute business processes effectively.
This phase is about creating synergy between people, processes, and technology.
Phase 4: Continuous Improvement and Sustainability
The final phase is about ensuring long-term success:
Performance Management: Implementing tools like 360-degree feedback and OKRs to track and improve performance.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Regularly tracking NPS trends and employee performance to identify emerging issues.
Feedback Loops: Establishing mechanisms for continuous feedback and improvement.
Sustainability Initiatives: Embedding a culture of continuous improvement to ensure the organization remains agile and resilient.
This phase is about future-proofing the organization and ensuring it can adapt to changing market dynamics.
Why This Approach Works:
The Business Oncologist approach is effective because it:
Identifies Root Causes: By diagnosing issues at their source, we can implement targeted solutions.
Aligns Core Elements: Ensuring talent, culture, processes, and technology work in harmony creates a high-performing organization.
Drives Sustainable Growth: Continuous improvement ensures the organization remains competitive and resilient and is more ESG Centric Business Model keeping the interest of the Planet on the TOP.
