Why Learn the German Language

Germany is reputed for its forte in heavy engineering and the auto industry. So, companies in Germany recruiting engineers from across the world expect their employees to speak and understand the German Language. Why should a student apply at a German university? - Barring a few private engineering universities, studying in any government-funded university in Germany expects their students to learn the language for surviving in the country. Stepping outside the campus of a university, one must understand instructions given in German on trams, buses, trains and even at shopping malls and last but not least at the local bakery, where we need to go to buy bread.
